48HR radon testing

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter a home from the soil below the foundation. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, meaning the only way to know your radon level is through testing.

A 48-hour radon test is the most common short-term test used during real estate transactions and home inspections. It provides a reliable snapshot of a home’s radon levels under controlled conditions.

How the 48-Hour Radon Test Works

  • A calibrated radon monitor is placed in the lowest livable level of the home
  • The test runs continuously for a minimum of 48 hours
  • The home must remain under closed-house conditions during the test
  • The monitor measures radon levels every hour and records an overall average

At the end of the test period, the data is retrieved and reviewed for accuracy.

Understanding the Results

  • Radon levels are measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L)
  • The EPA action level is 4.0 pCi/L
  • Results below 4.0 pCi/L are generally considered acceptable
  • Results at or above 4.0 pCi/L indicate that mitigation is recommended

Even homes with low radon levels can benefit from periodic retesting, as levels can change over time.

Why Radon Testing Matters

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and the leading cause among non-smokers. Radon can affect homes of any age, style, or location—new or old, slab, crawlspace, or basement.

Testing provides:

  • Peace of mind
  • Important health information
  • A clear basis for next steps, if needed

What You Receive

  • A professionally conducted 48-hour radon test
  • Clear, easy-to-understand results
  • Guidance on next steps if elevated levels are detected

Radon testing is a simple step that helps you better understand the health of the home and make informed decisions.

Please reach us at jordan@wholesomehomesco.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We recommend scheduling a Home Inspection as soon as you have a property under contract. This allows us to identify any potential issues early on and can help you make an informed decision about the purchase of the property.

If the Home Inspection reveals issues with the property, you can use this information to negotiate with the seller for either repairs or a price reduction. In some cases, you may choose to walk away from the purchase entirely.

Yes, we offer additional services such as radon testing, mold testing, and more. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your specific needs.
