Septic Inspection FAQ's

Please reach us at jordan@wholesomehomesco.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A functional septic dye test involves adding a non-toxic, colored dye to the plumbing system while running a significant amount of water to check for signs of leaks, backups, or improper drainage. While this test does not confirm the internal condition of the septic tank or drain field, it can help identify potential issues such as system overload or leaks that could lead to costly repairs.

A septic riser inspection involves evaluating the accessibility and condition of the risers, which provide direct access to the septic tank for maintenance and pumping. Properly installed and sealed risers make routine inspections and servicing easier, reducing long-term maintenance costs. Inspecting risers ensures they are intact, properly sealed, and free from cracks or damage that could allow water infiltration or system inefficiencies.

Common signs of a bad septic system include slow drains, sewage backups, foul odors, standing water or soggy ground near the drain field, unusually green grass over the septic area, and contaminated well water. If you notice any of these issues, it’s important to have a professional inspect the system as soon as possible.

If you suspect your septic system is failing, limit water usage to prevent further strain, avoid using harsh chemicals that can disrupt the system, and schedule a septic inspection immediately. Depending on the issue, solutions may include pumping the tank, repairing damaged components, or replacing the drain field if necessary. Ignoring a failing septic system can lead to costly repairs and environmental contamination.
